This year's ESCAPE symposium addresses the topic of »Closing the Loop 2.0«.

The focus is on process systems engineering (PSE) to accelerate the transition to a circular economy in the fields of energy, life sciences, and materials using technologies such as AI and quantum computers.

Our expert Dr. Sebastian Blauth from the department »Transport Processes« is on site with a poster showing the application of free-form shape optimization for the targeted improvement of the separation performance of structured packings in distillation columns.

For this purpose, a simplified single-phase CFD (computational fluid dynamics) model is used for mass transport in the column, and shape optimization problems are solved numerically with our optimization software »cashocs«.
